Meet the Local Governing Board

Laura Bawden – Chair of Governors

“I qualified as an Accountant over 10 years ago and am now a Finance Director working for a manufacturing company in Chesterfield. I became a governor because I am passionate about seeing young people reach their full potential and to encourage the early development of key skills that will be required by employers in the future. Being originally from the Lake District I moved to Sheffield over 20 years ago to study Maths at University. I live with my partner and 13 year old step-daughter in Sheffield and enjoy walking in the Peak District.”

John Clephan

"Born and brought up in Sheffield, I now live and work in the city with my wife and two children.

My career to date has centred around leading place-changing development programmes in neighbourhoods across Nottinghamshire, Rotherham and Sheffield. This has mainly been on behalf of local councils although for the last two years I have held the position of Project Director for Sheffield Housing Company - a joint venture housing developer building new homes across the city, including in Parson Cross. For the past 10 years I have worked with Chaucer School on the numerous development projects that have seen new housing, community facilities and shops built in Parson Cross. I have always been impressed by the school’s commitment to take a leading role in the neighbourhood as a whole. I have a strong belief in the values of Chaucer School and I am therefore very keen to do what I can to support the school and the work that it does for its students."

Jonathan Buckley

“I am the Youth Coordinator for the Methodist Church in Sheffield; prior to that, I worked for the YMCA in Sheffield, running a number of Youth Groups out of Mount Tabor and lunchtime and after-school clubs at local schools in Parson Cross, including at Chaucer. My wife and I and our 4 year old son live in Parson Cross, and want to help support the local schools on the estate wherever we can; so becoming a Community Governor seemed a good way to do that.”

Stephanie Kirton

“I qualified as a teacher in 2010 and since have worked in a number of schools and colleges in Manchester and Liverpool teaching Performing Arts. I have been part of the senior leadership team opening a new Performing Arts specialist college in Liverpool and constantly look for ways to increase opportunities in the arts for young people.

I currently work within the charity sector coaching trainee teachers who have moved from one career into teaching. Alongside this, I am also Company Director for Theatre Deli Sheffield.

As an ex-student of Chaucer School I am keen to share my experience and support the school to continue providing opportunities for its students and hope to do so in role as governor.”
